Your hosts Karen & Alison extend you a warm welcome to the Blue Swallow Guest House.

Our Guest House

Ideally situated on the edge of the historic market town of Penrith, the Blue Swallow Guest House is a charming Victorian town house built in 1851.  The guest house offers 7 comfortable and well presented rooms and is within easy distance of the town centre, bus and railway stations.

Penrith is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, located at the crossroads of the A66 and M6 (J40). Its central location within Cumbria makes it an ideal spot from which to explore the Lake District, Eden Valley, North Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall.

Penrith is a cycle friendly town with  the classic C2C, Lakes & Dales loop, LEJOG and National Routes 7 & 71 passing through. The Blue Swallow offers walkers and cyclists drying facilities and cycle storage.

A superb place to stay

This is my second stay in this fantastic b&b. The hosts Karen and Alison are so welcoming and go the extra mile to make you feel at home. The room was spotless with plenty of homemade treats such as chocolate tiffin and flapjack. Great breakfast with good quality local produce to set you up for the day. Nice place in a nice town

It was my second time at Blue Swallow and I can wholeheartedly recommend this guest house for anyone on business in Penrith or looking for a springboard to the Lake District. The room was impeccably clean and well-appointed. Blue Swallow is right in the centre of town. I had no trouble parking on the street outside. Karen and Alison made my stay a pleasant one.

Fantastic stay at the Blue Swallow

Had an excellent weekend in Penrith at the Blue Swallow Guest House. The location was easy to get to from the train station, the rooms were spacious and quite comfortable and had all the amenities (coffee/tea; snacks) necessary after a long walk in the Lake District. Breakfast was superb. Karen and Alison were wonderful hosts and provided for everything. It was a joy to stay and I hope to return for further adventures.

A Perfect Stopover

We stopped overnight at the Blue Swallow Guest House on a trip between NW Scotland and the South West. Our hosts Alison and Karen were welcoming and gracious. The house itself is beautifully maintained, everything spotless. The bedrooms are light and uncluttered, the beds super-comfy. Lovely big towels. The best morning tea/coffee tray ever! Breakfast – anything you could wish for to start a long day’s drive – was cooked and served with care and attention. We highly recommend the Blue Swallow, and hope to be back. Thank you, Karen and Alison, for your generous hospitality.

Smashing accomodation for a special weekend

We travelled to Penrith for a family wedding and Karen and Alison provided us with a lovely, well furnished and maintained resting place. Smashing breakfast, including homemade jams and lovely touches, with homemade ‘treats’ in the room.

From the time of booking to the time we checked out Alison and Karen were amazing hosts, this place is fantastic, it’s clean, well maintained, the bed and pillows were so comfortable, breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the homemade flapjack is amazing. There’s no bad points to mention about our stay, we will definitely be returning.

Great accommodation in a great location. Alison and Karen were very welcoming and couldn’t be more helpful. Very well organised accommodation, with every detail thought about and homemade treats always on offer. Breakfast was great and kept you fuelled for a day out in the Lakes. Will always look to this guesthouse on future stays in the Lake District.

Great experience

A centrally located and well appointed charming guest house, immaculately presented with lovely very welcoming hosts. The beautifully decorated single room was of good size with all required facilities including a new shower room. The wide breakfast choice included hearty well cooked portions. An excellent B&B, quality indeed!

Thank you for an excellent stay; the best bed and breakfast place we have visited. The room was spotlessly clean, we had everything we needed, and we were made to feel welcome. The breakfast was excellent and the provision of tea, coffee, biscuits and homemade baking as well as fresh milk for our room was much appreciated. Highly recommended!

Practically perfect in every way

Once again, Karen and Alison have delivered a 5 star stay with their amazing, friendly hospitality, the hottest freshest cooked breakfast I have ever had, a spotlessly clean, well equipped room, a comfy bed and a great shower room. Let’s not forget the great teas and coffees in the room with fresh milk, Scottish tablet (it’s the sweetest of treats) and chocolate tiffin on the hospitality tray. We were so well looked after with their attentive, homely service and they know everyone’s names which is such a great touch. The value of the stay is absolutely amazing too. When you consider the room you get and the breakfast they provide, this is unbeatable value in Penrith. We will definitely return. Thank you

Fabulous. Warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, great location

Quite simply everything was fantastic. From the great comms upfront, to the home baked gifts, the warmth of the welcome to the great breakfasts. All in a lovely house, with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Nothing was too much trouble, not that we had to ask for anything, as everything is provided, or anticipated before you think to ask. Lovely people and we all said that we would stay here again without a moment’s hesitation. Oh! and brilliant value too!
