Our Guest House

Ideally situated on the edge of the historic market town of Penrith, the Blue Swallow Guest House is a charming Victorian town house built in 1851.  The guest house offers 7 comfortable and well presented rooms and is within easy distance of the town centre, bus and railway stations.

Penrith is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, located at the crossroads of the A66 and M6 (J40). Its central location within Cumbria makes it an ideal spot from which to explore the Lake District, Eden Valley, North Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall.

Penrith is a cycle friendly town with  the classic C2C, Lakes & Dales loop, LEJOG and National Routes 7 & 71 passing through. The Blue Swallow offers walkers and cyclists drying facilities and cycle storage.

‘I love staying here’
The owners go out of their way to cater for customers every need. House is clean and meets every need. I had a delicious breakfast and love the home baking that I was given for my onward travel.

‘Top class guest house !’
I’ve stayed at the Blue Swallow many times and it’s always superb. The rooms are extremely clean, tidy and well appointed. My room had en-suite facilities, an excellent hospitality tray with bottled water and delicious home baking, a handy small table, electric fan which was very welcome on warmer evenings – lots of things to make the stay as comfortable and inviting as possible. Breakfasts are always of the highest quality – an excellent choice, food that’s delicious and cooked meals that are lovely and hot. And served very much with a smile ! The hosts are really welcoming, accommodating and always keen to help make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as
possible. Without a doubt, the Blue Swallow is about as good as guest houses get.

Perfect homely single room’
Had a great stay. The room was really comfortable, homely and roomy even for single bedroom . Perfectly clean and with a well stocked complementary tea and coffee tray including local and homemade treats. The bathroom is small but perfect for a single person and both hosts were amicable and helpful. The breakfast is pre-order but with great selection of choices. Highly recommended.

Aitor - June 2021

‘Just one night, unfortunately ‘
Just has to be one of the cleanest, friendliest and delightful places I’ve ever stayed in. Those ladies are so accommodating, nothing is too
much trouble. Thank you for getting up so early to make me porridge before my gruelling  day in the Lakes triathlon. Their homemade strawberry and blueberry jam is out of this world. Can’t wait to return. Thank you.

‘Wonderful’
Loved the place, 5 star treatment. very clean room, comfortable bed, esp. liked the fresh milk daily. great breakfast, both in choice and taste, with local produce. Karen and Alison and lovely people, so friendly and always giving out home baking treats. Faultless.

‘Great location, lovely accommodation, friendly hosts’

Great location and easy to park at the property. Karen and Alison are warm, friendly and helpful hosts. The room I stayed in had everything you would need for a comfortable stay with some nice touches like Scottish Fine Soaps toiletries, chilled bottled water, homemade tablet and home baking.  There is an extensive choice for breakfast, all tastes are catered for, healthy options, freshly cooked options and lighter choices.

Jacqueline - July 2021

‘Excellent B & B’
Just returned from another wonderful stay at the Blue Swallow. Owners Karen, Alison (and Bunty) very welcoming. Room was light and airy with comfortable bed, good shower and everything spotlessly clean. Fresh milk is supplied to the room each day for tea/coffee with beautiful home baking (we had Tiffin cake and Scottish tablet home made by Karen…delicious). Lovely breakfast with good menu choice including vegetarian/ vegan options. Karen and Alison are very friendly and accommodating and go the extra mile to ensure you have a comfortable stay. Good location for the lakes and excellent value for money!

Theresa & David - July 2021

‘Lovely B&B with great hosts’
Lovely B&B with the best hosts. The room was very clean and perfect for my needs. Alison and Karen gave me a warm welcome and were just delightful hosts throughout my stay. I had to leave early to do on a walk on my first day and when I declined their kind offer to provide an early breakfast, they insisted they leave at least a snack and a banana for me to take. Lots of breakfast choices with good quality produce. Hope to stay there again next time I visit Penrith.  Thank you for your hospitality!

‘Exceptional Hosting in a Wonderful Guest House’
Alison and Karen provided the best guesthouse experience we’ve ever had. Location, room and facilities were all spot on with personal touches all around. The breakfast is superb, tasty, plentiful. It’s the little touches of service that make it unique; daily offerings of homemade Scottish tablet, flapjacks and tiffin bars, maps of walks, local insight and just the most wonderful, homely hosting you could ask for. And Bunty, their border collie will welcome you in her own gentle, loving way too!

Chris - July 2021

Good high standard and 5 star rating’
The Blue Swallow exceeded my expectations. Karen and Allison were lovely and kind hosts, the room was spacious and very clean, there was a wide ranging breakfast selection to suit all tastes that was done to a high standard. Karen and Allison really went the extra mile by providing homemade flapjack, fudge and chocolate tiffin as part of the stay, which was all delicious and a lovely gesture.

Joe - July 2021

‘Superb stay!’

welcome! Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfasts were delicious! I’ll definitely stay again!

‘Excellent’
Just back from our visit we had a great time. Karen and Alison are fantastic hosts with nothing being any trouble for them. The small touches
are fantastic e.g. home baking in the rooms and when going out for the day. The rooms are so comfortable and spotlessly clean and the breakfast is tremendous (poached eggs were spot on). I would 100% recommend this guest house and will definitely be back again (and again).
